Frankfurt am Main (Germany) - September 2015: Note in this image how small the sharp area of the image is. Such bokeh effects can be obtained even with a small image sensor at full zoom.
Image Composition - The Rule of Thirds
One of the most common mistakes that beginners of photography make is to place their object in the middle of the image. To make your photos look more interesting, you should go to the camera settings and activate the grid lines. Now you will see two horizontal and two vertical lines on your display and viewfinder, dividing the image into nine areas. You should take care to arrange your objects along these lines and their intersections. For example, if you are photographing a person on the beach, you could arrange the horizon along the upper or lower horizontal line and the person along one of the two vertical lines. Take a closer look at pictures from other photographers. You will see that a lot of photos were "composed" according to this formula. I also almost always use this rule of thirds, because it follows the so-called "golden ratio", which is particularly attractive to the human eye.
